This VP of Growth Quit Her Dream Role (and got her life back)
If you’ve ever felt guilty about wanting to quit, you’ll love this POV.
Presented by Navattic:
I’ve had a front-row seat for Navattic’s freemium plan evolution over the past year.
Month 1: freemium cannibalized their MQLs.
Month 12: it’s helped them 2x inbound pipeline.
The journey has turned into a case study how freemium matures and impacts a sales-led business over time (something I hadn’t seen from the inside before).
To celebrate their 1-year freemium milestone, they’re making the free plan even more generous... Sign up before October 10th, you’ll get twice the amount of demo’s normally included in the free plan.
This VP of Growth was staring at a stack of pancakes, sitting across from her CEO, and ready to quit her job.
She’d spent years chasing this title, but clearly something wasn’t right.
Because for the past six months - her left eye wouldn’t stop twitching.
She kept pushing through it.
Telling herself it was just stress. Maybe too much coffee. That it would go away.
But deep down, she knew her body was sending a message.
Before she became the Growth Lead at Maven, and before The Old Girls Club took off, mallory contois was the COO of a gaming startup.
She helped it scale from Seed to Series A.
But something wasn’t right anymore.
“Everybody said, just eat a banana,” she said laughing.
“But I knew a banana wasn’t gonna fix this. As soon as I quit, it went away. It was crazy.”
Most people would’ve pushed through. Or felt guilty for not loving the job (or title) they’d worked so hard to get.
Mallory didn’t do that... she listened.
And later, after being diagnosed with ADHD at 30, she realized that moment had taught her a lesson that would be valuable for the rest of her career.
She wasn’t just finding the right roles for her career.
She was learning how to find the right systems for her brain.
The kind of environments where she could thrive.
(which she says that has been her biggest unlock as a leader)
Our full conversation dives into how Mallory learned to match herself to the right problems, and how the best leaders don’t just design their careers around their strengths.
If you’ve ever wondered when it’s time to move on, you’ll love her pov.
